Flexible Doula Services for Uncertain Times
with alberta hospital access and service-based business guidelines changing frequently in response to the covid-19 pandemic, adora birth + wellness is committed to offering family-first, flexible birth service options that get you the support you deserve in a way that is feasible once we hit your due date.
Upon securing your due date with a contract + retainer fee, we will anticipate and pursue in-person birth doula services together, but you will have the option to make changes to your birth services at three specific checkpoints:
- What is a doula?
The word "doula" is of Greek origin and traditionally means "a woman's servant." Today, a doula is recognized as a person who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother and/or family before, during, and shortly after childbirth.
- OK, but what exactly does a birth doula do?
Doulas do many things including provide emotional support, evidence-based information about pregnancy and childbirth, logistical support in the way of checklists and resource guides, and physical support during labor.
- Do doulas have training or credentials? What makes you a "professional doula"?
Anyone may advertise themselves as a "doula," but a "professional doula" should have some sort of training, experience, and certification. I am trained and certified by DONA International, am a member of the Calgary Doula Association, and am certified in Red Cross First Aid/CPR as well as High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development.
